Coloring things in has really taken over in all areas in the last couple of years. I’ve always doodled in my bible or on my journal pages but often wasn’t happy with the results because I really don’t think I draw well enough. Luckily the Bible Journaling trend has given talented illustrators a chance to shine and share designs that we can use and then embellish with color.

A few bible publishers have come out with bibles that already have designs inspired by the scripture on that page for those of us afraid to “mess up.”

But what are the best markers for the NIV Beautiful Word bible? ( markers my personal preference for coloring over crayloa or pencils). What do you recommend? The paper is on the thinner side which makes it difficult to avoid bleeding to other side where there’s more coloring to do as well.
I’ve been googling around and your website has prompted me to look into the Kuretake Zig bursh markers or the Faber Castel line of Pitt Pens.
Hey Stephanie, that’s the next article I’m working on.. Art supplies for bible journaling. I know Gesso is an important part, you can prep the pages so that things don’t bleed as much. Caron D’ache neocolor II crayons are something I’m currently playing with as well.. Hold tight, the new article will be up soon. 🙂 I’m not sure markers like the type I’d use in a Coloring book will work for bible coloring because of the thin quality of the paper.
Stephanie, Gesso is great for priming pages to prevent bleedthrough when using watercolor paints, pens etc. Supplies from Illustrated Faith are also great!
