Pauline Roberts says
Sorry to say this but by saying you wouldn’t recommend one of these books for ‘seniors’ is rather insulting and stereotyping. I am classed as a ‘senior’ and do far more intricate colouring and artwork than shown on this book cover (which in my opinion is rather childlike). I was enjoying your review until I spotted that.
You know what Pauline.. you are exactly right! I have edited that portion of my review. I am a “senior” and didn’t enjoy these postcards as they are just too tiny for ME to enjoy coloring even though they are rather childlike in nature. I like detail coloring in a Johanna Basford book but they are tiny spaces that create a larger whole, coloring in the tiny spaces of all those words just isn’t my cup of tea but I know other do enjoy it. Who is your favorite illustrator?
Thank you for understanding what I was getting at. I realised afterwards it may have come across as a bit harsh, which I didn’t want it to be!
My favourite illustrators are Hannah Karlzon and and Klara Markova. I do also have a wide variety of others such as Bennett Klein and Kerby Rosane. I have to be in the right mood and have the right picture for the latter though.
I have just finished doing Johanna Basford’s Inky Art School (based on her latest book How to Draw Inky Wonderlands. She did 10 1 hour video sessions ob Facebook if you are interested and didn’t know about it. Although all comments are closed, the videos are up there still and will be indefinitely. It was a great experience in showing what we are all capable of doing. It’s certainly given me and many others the confidence to branch out and try new things without forever bashing ourselves on our lack of skills :-).
Thank you for responding.
Oh it sounds like we have a lot in common, those are my favorites too! I have been playing with/struggling through her inky wonderland book but I didn’t know about her videos. Thank you for letting me know!
My pleasure. I’ve just applied some of what I’ve learned to a ‘blank beetle’ in Hannah Karlzon’s DayDreams and surprised myself. Any problems finding the group do let me know (and if you like it in due course).
I want to invite you to join our coloring group so you can show off your new skills. I’d love to see and I’m sure our members would as well. 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/groups/coloringbookaddict/
Check out my new article about Lifebook 2020 if you are interested in learning more about drawing and maybe delving into mixed media art. https://coloringbookaddict.com/life-book-art-journaling/
Thanks for the suggestion but already tried mixed media and it definitely wasn’t for me :-(. I can see there is a lot of content though for those that have the time. My time is just do it when I can due to health issues. A lot of the other content such as well being and mindfulness I can see would be useful to newbies; anything to have a more relaxed life is good :-).
