I call myself a hippie artist, a feminist artist, and a recycling artist and they all fit.
Why? because I like to use found objects, use things I already have in untraditional ways and I love to recycle things including my old projects. I took many of my paintings from the beginning of my journey and turned them into Artist Trading Cards (ATCs). I also love to add quotes from my favorite feminist role model Ruth Bader Ginsberg or the voice of our age, Glennon Doyle
My approach to life has always been somewhat haphazard, with not a ton of planning, and not very good at making lists but things seem to turn out ok in spite of my right-brained, non-traditional approach to “organization” and such.
After losing my Mom and going through a divorce 20 years ago, I set aside my artistic calling in order to get a job, earn money and survive. Only until I discovered Zentangle and Coloring Books in 2016 did my DESIRE TO CREATE come back into my heart and soul… my friends call adult coloring my gateway drug!
Online Art Classes
I started searching for art classes locally but couldn’t really find anything that started at the…. “here is how you use watercolors” level. An artist friend suggested I check out some online art classes so I started searching. The first teacher I ran across was Andrea Gomoll and joined her sketching and faces class which led me to Lifebook and the wonderful Tamara Laporte and dozens of other online teachers. I’ve also discovered Jane Davenport, Dyan Reaveley, Jodi Ohl Online Art Class and Micki Wilde and have taken online classes from them.
What I have discovered is that…
I am Completely in LOVE with ONLINE ART CLASSES
No really! You don’t have to lug all your stuff to a studio somewhere, you can make a big mess and leave it until you have time to come back, you can replay that tricky part of the project or a new technique over and over and over and over! No one cares because you are doing it in your art room. I hope you have one of those if you don’t then the kitchen table works too. I used to have an office which is now my art room. Honestly, I never really worked there anyway, so now it’s full of happy colors and WAY too many art supplies.
Mixed media is the best for art supply junkies like me because we NEED it all!
So, why did I start to blog about art on my coloring book site? I was so frustrated wanting to find my inner artist and I bet there are a bajillion people out there just like me who don’t know how to start. I will be sharing my favorite classes and art supplies and art books and my newbie art projects on occasion.
You can follow my current favorite obsessions and classes by following my artist’s Instagram account here. ChristineFaithArt.
What will I get out of it?
I like to help people find what they’ve been looking for on the net and have gotten pretty good at it. I also wanted to help support the fabulous artists I’ve discovered and along the way discover some more.
I will be earning some commission through the Amazon affiliate program. I earn between 2% & 5% commissions if you click on the amazon links I suggest and purchase anything. This doesn’t cost you anything and is completely transparent. I’ve also partnered with Etsy, Joanns, Michaels, Dick Blick, Joggles and Scrapbook.com when any purchases are made via my links. Again, this doesn’t change anything for you, it’s just a way for me to keep the lights on and continue to promote fabulous artists at the same time so YEAH! Win-Win.
I was recently able to become an Amazon Affiliate in a few countries in Europe as well as the UK & Canada. We are excited to be part of these since many of the teachers and students are in France, Italy, Sweden, and soon Germany.
If you are an artist or know any fabulous artists who could use some help getting the word out about their classes or products please contact me here.
If you are an art supply company and would like me to feature your products on the site, I’d love to get a sample and try them out.
