Drawing and painting faces is one of the things that a beginner artist thinks defines whether they are “good” or not. It’s certainly one of the most intimidating things the first time you try. I’ve seen Kara Bullock’s online art course Let’s Face It every year but was afraid to even think about joining it.
I’ve started to come into my own as a mixed-media artist and I’m ok with making some ugly art as I learn. I know that the faces I’ll learn to paint in this course will come from 26 different artists with a vast array of styles and over 50 lessons on drawing and painting faces. Click here to sign up
Maria Pace-Wynters is another teacher who teaches you to let go of what you actually see and paint what you feel. I have done two of Maria’s face projects including this one with a Glennon Doyle quote included. This was the fall of 2021 in acrylics.
One artist I’m particularly excited about taking a course from is Emma Pettit. I love her exaggerated body parts & facial features in her portraits and can’t wait to see if I can dive into that world. She has three stand-alone courses in Kara’s artist network too that you can explore here.
A few of the artists I’ve already taken classes from and love, while others have styles I’ve admired and have wanted to learn from. I’ve spoken before about Toni Burt, she uses watercolor in easy to play with ways with faces in her work. Several of my favorite paintings are a result of her simple face sketch instructions. I was actually brave enough to frame this one and hang it in my home. This girl is a watercolor, graphite pencil, and ink completed in early 2022.
These are just a few of the artists that I’m familiar with so I’m excited to see what else there is to learn and explore. I signed up during the EARLY early bird special and I have to say I’m surprised to find content already populated in the classroom. Supply lists, resources and several Live lessons have already happened in the exclusive Facebook group.

In 2025 we will focus on growing our artistic voice…..
In 2025, we will focus on growing our artistic voice by blending inspiration from diverse art styles with our own unique expressions. This year’s lessons are absolutely incredible—I’m completely blown away! We’re introducing new poses this year, including the back of the head (for all of you that want to master drawing/painting hair), mature adults, and children. Each module will also offer a BONUS lesson, providing alternative options for those weeks when a lesson feels intimidating or isn’t your preferred style!
Do you only want to work in your favorite medium? That’s up to you. I know that I have health issues that preclude me from using oil paints so I’ll be doing those lessons with acrylic or watercolor or whatever mixed media magic I decide. (Also…. I’m MUCH too impatient to wait for oil paint to dry)
It’s your year so you get to do what YOU want to do. I’m so excited to get started.
